Our New Film Production Website is Launched!

March 25th, 2009

New Site Is Up

We are happy to announce that our new film production website is now up at www.macpix.com. We have completed projects for the American Red Cross and Rand McNally, to name a few. Please take a look at our reel to see some of our work. It is exciting that we are now using video in our visual story telling in addition to our traditional photography. As we all move towards a world of “New Media”, with the constantly changing landscape of how visuals are presented, it is exciting to be part of that scene. Please check it out and let us know your thoughts.

From a Food Photographer: Thanks Alice Waters

March 23rd, 2009

One of the many things we photograph and film hear at the studio is food. One would think that with a full kitchen at my disposal here at work I would eat better. I was inspired and challenged by the 60 Minutes piece on Alice Waters. Her passion to educate on eating healthy, especially for kids, was an encouragement. She is behind the “Slow Food” movement. It promotes organic, locally grown sustainable food. It is also a philosophy of slowing down to enjoy the food we eat. While the market I stopped at this morning did not have organic, locally grown produce, I was inspired to get some healthy items to whip together in the kitchen for lunch.

Stop Frame Animation: It Only Took a Week!

March 19th, 2009

Animation Set-Up

It was supposed to be a quick animation shoot for one of our design firm clients. They wanted to showcase their work in a unique way. We came up with the concept of shooting their printed material in traditional stop frame animation. The idea was to march their printed pieces around on a cork-board.  Easy stuff right? Well the animation got more and more complicated and one day turned into two, and before we knew it….five days of shooting!! The footage is incredible. It is currently in post, but should be finished soon. We even decided to have original music scored for it. We will link it to the blog as soon as it is done.

A New Addition: Canon 5D Mark II

Canon 5D Mark II

Canon 5D Mark II

We recently started using the new Canon DSLR camera, the 5D Mark II. It really is a beautiful piece of technology. It almost delivers too much data. All that resolution is nice, but at 21 megapixels it’s a lot of data to archive. We shoot everything in RAW to have the most versatility. Once these are proceesed out to hi res tiff files for clients they are over 60 meg files. One some jobs we shoot 1000+ images. Do the math. No wonder we have terabytes and terabytes of storage.
